This year’s Inverell Relay For Life will once again call for those people in the Inverell community to take part special ceremonies that recognise locals that have been affected by cancer.

Organisers are calling out to those who have survived cancer and those who have cared for someone with cancer to take part in our special Survivors and Carers ceremony from 6pm at the Inverell Highlanders Rugby Park on March 16.
All the survivors and carers will take a special lap to commemorate their special contribution in their brave fight against cancer.
“We wanted to do something extra special this year to honour our local cancer survivors and carers who have battled cancer by offering them a special sit down dinner at relay to highlight to the community one of the reasons why we relay and that is to give hope to those who may face similar battles in the future,” long serving chairperson of the Inverell Relay for Life committee Sharon Staader said.
Anyone who wishes to take part in the Survivors and Carers ceremony can register online. Registrations need to be completed by 6pm on Monday, March 12.
The other significant ceremony during Relay For Life is the hope or candlelight ceremony, which remembers those loved ones in our community that have been lost to cancer.
This special moment at Relay offers an opportunity for those in the Inverell community to submit photos of family, friends and colleagues who lost their battle with cancer to be included in a special tribute under candlelight.
Photos can be of loved ones lost either recently or many years ago and should be copies rather than originals, where possible. New England Community Engagement Coordinator for Cancer Council NSW, Paul Hobson said “photo tributes were a special way to remember those we have lost to cancer”.
“Seeing the photos of lost loved ones in the hope ceremony reminds us why we are fighting for a cancer free future,” he said.
“The candlelight ceremony is always a particularly moving and emotional highlight of any Relay experience.”
Photos can be submitted by email to jodiuebergang@gmail.com or paulh@nswcc.org.au, or brought along to the team captains meeting at the Inverell Easts Bowling Club, 6.00pm on Monday 12th March. Submission of photos will close on this night of the Team Captains meeting on 12th March.
