Eight secondary schools and three primary schools will gather at the RSM Club on Friday March 9. The University of Newcastle run the event which includes engineering challenges for the students.
The challenge has been run in Inverell for the past eight years by the Inverell Rotary Club with assistance with staffing from three other Rotary Clubs, Inverell East, Glen Innes and Warialda.
Any interested members of the public are welcome to drop in to the RSM auditorium and watch the students as they create and problem solve.
Danthonia makes a mark in state
Last year a combined team from Danthonia and Glen Innes High Schools had great success after doing very well at the challenge and continuing on to the next level.
On August 16, the joint team contested in the NSW State Science and Engineering Challenge at the University of Newcastle.
This premier event brought together the 25 top scoring schools in the state. These were the winners from regional contests which had been attended by 200 schools from all across NSW.
Through much excitement and extended effort, with teams of four students contesting 10 different complex engineering feats, the Danthonia-Glen Innes team placed first of the eight schools contesting on day one of the three days.
To their intense disappointment, they were relegated to second place for the entire state, when ASC St Peter’s of Newcastle earned a 1393.98 to top Danthonia-Glen’s 1349.92.
Both schools relished the opportunity to work as a joint venture to achieve these results, and are preparing to go even further in 2018.
