At Glen Innes airport and at the agricultural research centre they’ve been working through a dozen scenarios including vehicle accidents, bush fires and power cable collapses. Some scenarios involved aircraft and gas. Some of the learning was class based but much was through simulated situations.
All told, there were 45 tankers, 209 fire-fighters and more than a hundred support staff.
The event happens every year in Glen Innes on the third weekend in March. RFS teams need their knowledge refreshing because technology moves on, whether as machinery to fight fires or as the cause of those fires – how do solar panels on a burning house alter the situation?
