Police are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the driver or owner of a vehicle involved, and the owner of the calf. 

The white Holden ute was pursued by police in Cunningham Street late on Saturday night, early Sunday morning of March 24-25. The Hereford calf, which had been hogtied, was being dragged along behind the vehicle. 

Police believe it had fallen out of the ute after one leg became loose from the bindings. The car’s registration number was not visible after the speeding vehicle hit a divot in the road and the back of the tray fell down, covering the licence plate.

Police followed the vehicle to Delungra road, but were forced to end pursuit due to speed and community safety. They followed the trail left by the calf down Michell Lane, where the animal was found to be deceased.

There was no branding or ear tags on the Hereford calf, and the age and size could not be accurately determined. Police believe the animal first came off the vehicle along Killarney Gap Road. 

The white 1999 Holden Rodeo utility is a space cab or dual cab, with an aluminium tray back. The vehicle has a red toolbox (similar to a mechanic’s tool box) on the tray on the driver’s side and a smaller silver toolbox beside it in the centre of the tray.
