Raw and revealing, a year and a half on from sharing her memoir Girl On The Edge with Inverell readers, author Kim Hodges has returned to town with its sequel Girl Over the Edge.

Ms Hodges will be at the Inverell Shire Public Library from 10am on Monday, April 16 with advance copies of the book, which explores her struggles with depression and anxiety.
“It was hard to revisit the content, but it was also therapeutic to write these things down,” she said.
She felt her story of being bowled over by mental illness at 45-years-old could help challenge the stigma associated with such struggles.
“People will realise that I was a functional human being, I was a mother of two boys, I was teaching at university as a tutor and lecturer; juggling the balls of life,” she said.
“Mental illness does not discriminate.” Ms Hodges said it took time for her to accept she was mentally ill and overcome the shame she felt.
“Writing about it helped me come to terms with it and now I feel I’ve become an advocate for sufferers of mental illness.”
