Walcha were defeated 32-12 by Ashford in their Group 19 Second Division match last Saturday at John Oxley Sports Ground. The game was played in very windy conditions.
Midway through the first half the Roosters opened the scoring with an unconverted try in the entrance gate corner before the Roos responded when hooker Jack McAlister dived over near the posts from dummy half.
Skipper Steve Everleigh raised the flags with the conversion attempt to give the the hosts a 6-4 lead, which was short lived when the visitors latched on to an intercept and raced 80 metres to score under the posts.
An unconverted try to Ashford right on half-time gave them a 16-4 advantage at the break, which they increased to 32-6 with 13 minutes remaining.after they had crossed for three converted tries.
Backrower Thomas Boyd was rewarded for his enthusiastic efforts when he plunged over next to the sticks in a handy spot for Eveleigh to convert.
For the second week in succession all players refused to throw the towel in, and there were certainly some big hits in defence from both teams, including a couple of bone rattlers from Roos centre Mitch Eveleigh.
