A new, ground level median strip stretches along the street, dotted with pin oak trees, while chanticleer pear trees replaced the previous London plane trees.
Despite controversy surrounding the Town Centre Renewal Plan, mayor Paul Harmon has remained optimistic throughout, and is thrilled with the final result. “I’m very excited about it. It’s come up better than I had imagined,” he said.
“It’s come up so fresh and given Otho Street a new vibrancy.”
The works took nine weeks, and Cr Harmon credited the council workers for limiting the impact of a project initially expected to take 12-15 weeks.
“The staff have worked hard and juggled their traffic management plan around, and that has worked fabulously,” he said.
He was proud of the community for continuing to support Otho Street during the construction period, and the Chamber of Commerce for promoting the area with their weekly voucher promotion.
