Michelle Maxwell, who creates the store’s displays, said she always commemorates Anzac Day out of a deep respect for the diggers.
Several of her own relatives have fought for the country, and take pride of place among the poppies and uniforms.
“There’s a photo in the display of my great, great uncles. One fought in the light horse in 1915 and the other one was in the artillery. They were from Werris Creek,” she said.
“There’s a photo of my mother’s cousin who fought in New Guinea and there’s a photo of my father’s uncle who fought overseas.”
She encouraged store volunteers to bring in their own family photos to personalise the mini exhibit. Salvation Army Major Kaye Townsend shared her uncles’ stories, while Annie Soutter’s New Zealander father joined his Aussie comrades on the photo shelf.
A former nurse, Michele worked to honour their contribution, with three uniforms on display.
