Up until the 50th minute of play, the Hawks and Tigers were evenly matched at 28 to 24 to the Hawks.

After this point, fitness and a number of injuries were detrimental to the Tigers, allowing the Hawks to pile on points.

The Hawks were superbly led by half back and man of the match Mick Watton, who contributed a personal tally of 24 points before being given an early mark for his efforts.

Tingha at one stage led the Hawks by 12 to 6 midway through the first half thanks to two tries by fullback Brayden Vickery.

The Hawks bounced back in the last five minutes of this half through tries to Tom Jerrard and Bailey Cosgrove to lead at half time 24 to 12.

A try to Brennon Cosgrove in the first minute of the second half had the Hawks in front 28 to 12. The Tigers fought back admirably.

Brayden Vickery who was the Tigers best player, crossed for his third try and when Chris Hall scored in the 10th minute, the Tigers were back in the game only trailing 28 to 24.

Bailey Cosgrove put the Hawks out to a 34 to 24 lead at the 15th minute of the second half and from this point on the Hawks were in full control.

The homeside raced in another five tries before full time to come away with a comprehensive 68 to 24 win.

Best and Fairest points went to Mick Watton, James Ballinger and Layne Fitzgerald.

The Hawks juniors took to the field for the first time this season, and after a great start through a try to Brady Mather after two minutes, the Hawks soon found themselves trailing 18 to 6, after the Tigers scored three converted tries in 10 minutes mid way through the first half. 

Tries to Ethan Campbell and Brady Mather prior to half time had the scores locked at 18 all at the break.

Four converted tries in the second half to Ethan Campbell, Laughlin Hagan and Jack Stafford had the Hawks commence their season with a 42 to 18 victory.

Best and Fairest points went to Ethan Campbell, Brady Mather and Laughlin Hagan.

The Hawkettes League Tag side remain undefeated after recording a hard fought 10 to 6 victory over Tingha.

Despite missing their two Group 19 representatives, the Hawkettes turned on a great defensive display to hold out a very determined Tingha side.

Making her debut for the Hawkettes, Kyla Hamilton turned in a player of the match performance with two scintillating tries, the latter towards the end of the match securing a win for the Hawkettes.

Best and Fairest points went to Kyla Hamilton, Lenikki Craigie and Milly Koch.

Next Saturday the Hawks travel to Moree to take on the Boomerangs in all four grades at Salvo’s Oval in Anne Street.
