Named in honour of the former Gunnedah local, now Sydney Swans star Sam Naismith, the local team was thrilled to take home the top prize.
Naismith is thrilled to have a cup named in his honour, and remains supportive of the local AFL scene.
Inverell High took on Saint Mary’s Gunnedah in an action-packed final at Varley Oval, coming out on top with a score of 14. 8. 92.
Captain Angus Lindsay was very proud of the local boys, and said they really came together as a team in the second quarter of the game.
North West development manager Matthew Crawley was impressed with both teams. He felt the Saint Mary’s team could have changed the game if they’d simply had straighter kicks.
