But a change in attitude after the break allowed the Hawks run in seven tries during the second half to run out winners by 50 points to 12.
To Armidale’s credit, where at times looked the more highly placed team during the first half, the Rams rattled the Hawks into errors and were eventually rewarded with the games first try in the 15th minute.
This try appeared to jolt the Hawks into action, with Josh Boyd and Harold Duncan quickly crossing for tries and Thomas Jerrard snaring a four pointer just on half time, to have the homeside in front at the break by 14-6.
The second half saw winger Billy Stewart scoring a hat trick before leaving the field with an injury.
James Ballinger was awarded referees and club best and fairest for his tireless work, and he was well supported by his front row partners in Jack Hukins and Josh Boyd, with Boyd crossing for two tries on the day.
Hawks Presidents Cup side had little more than a training run in their 96 points to 12 victory over the Rams.
The Hawks opened the scoring in the second minute of play with a try to Kertley Thomas. A further seven tries during the first half had the Hawks in front at half time by 42-6.
Anthony Dunn opened the scoring in the second half from the kick off, and Ronald Blair finished the try feast right on full time to have the final score in favour of the Hawks 96-12.
In total the Hawks scored 18 tries with Tyrone Green crossing for 4, his brother Kyle with three and captain coach Anthony Dunn chipping in with a double.
Juniors, playing with only ten men, fought back from a 12-0 deficit to eventually run out victorious by 42-30.
Tries in the first half to Leroy Villaneuva, Dylan Muggleton and Ethan Campbell , had the Hawks going into half time locked up with Armidale at 18 all.
Three tries in the first 20 minutes of play by the Hawks Muggleton, Campbell and Brendon McMahon had the Hawks appearing safe leading 36-18.
With Ethan Campbell finding himself in the sin bin for 10 minutes, Armidale capitalised during this period scoring two converted tries to have them back in the match trailing by only six points.
Campbell redeemed himself on his return, to score the match winning try with a minute remaining in the match, to have the Hawks winning by 42 to 30.
Hawkettes were finally rewarded for their consistent efforts of late, when they recorded a 14-12 victory, which has now placed them in fourth position on the points table.
Gaby Watkins opened the scoring half way through the first half with a great 40 metre burst to score under the posts. The conversion by Lenniki Craigie ultimately proved the difference between the two sides.
Armidale responded two minutes later to level the scores at 6-6, and this remained the score until half time.
The Rams hit the front immediately after the break to lead 12-6. Inverell’s player of the match Hollie Stafford, crossed for her first try of the season to have the Hawks trailing 12-10 with 15 minutes remaining.
The Hawkettes hit the lead through a try to the speedy Kyla Hamilton, and were able to defend their lead for the remaining 4 minutes of play, despite a couple of errors that allowed Armidale to attack their line during this period.
