Running from July 8-15, the 2018 theme ‘Because of her, we can!’ focuses on the contribution of Indigenous women in our society.
NAIDOC Schedule
Friday, July 6: NAIDOC Youth Disco. Held at Flanders House, the juniors (8-12yrs) are invited along from 5.30-7.30pm, with the seniors event (13-17yrs) running from 7.30-10.30pm.
Sunday, July 8: NAIDOC Church Service. Held at Sapphire City Church on Mansfield St from 6pm.
Monday, July 9: Tingha NAIDOC Celebrations. The town march will start at Amethyst Street at 10.45am. A flag raising and Anaiwan LALC morning tea will follow at the Tingha Sport & Recreation Centre. Rugby league star Nathan Hindmarsh will be the special guest.
Community Health NAIDOC Memorial Celebration. There will be a meet and greet from 2pm at the Inverell Hospital Rehab Unit. There will be afternoon tea a Leona Quinell Memorial Slideshow and a painting donation.
Tuesday, July 10: NAIDOC Fellowship Luncheon. Locals are invited to lunch at Danthonia on the Glen Innes Highway from 11.40am to 1.15pm. A bus pickup will be available at Armajun and the Linking Together Centre at 11am and returning at 2pm.
Wednesday, July 11: NAIDOC Family Fun Day. Held at the Linking Together Centre, Waratah Park from 11am to 2pm.
Thursday, July 12: NAIDOC Women’s Gathering. Visit the Inverell East Bowling Club on Glen Innes Highway from 10.00am to 3pm. There will be a fashion parade with special guest speakers and morning tea and lunch.
Friday, July 13: Inverell NAIDOC Celebrations. The celebrations will run from 11am to 2.30pm. The march leaves from the library carpark to Victoria Park. There will be a flag raising, dancers, special guest speakers and the NAIDOC Awards.
Award nominations remain open until June 22.
