“We’ve been doing it for several years now, but I think this is the best turnout we’ve had. It’s really good,” programs manager Lucas Thom said.
A NAIDOC Week celebration, children were full of toothy grins as they tried out the jumping castle, created arts and crafts and played with the bubble-making machine. At the face painting stall, friends from the Danthonia community helped transform the youngsters into everything from a husky to a delicate butterfly.
Linking Together staff were kept busy cooking a sausage sizzle for the visitors. Several local services, including Brighter Access, Community Health, Homes North, and Pathfinders were there to meet locals and run craft activities.

“It’s good to see the organisations get behind us and bring some information over to the community,” Mr Thom said.
He said with many Indigenous families living in south Inverell, the Linking Together Centre was pleased to host a NAIDOC celebration in the area.
“They can just walk to the park here and enjoy the day,” he said.
The family fun day followed a special Elders fellowship luncheon and meet and greet at the Danthonia Bruderhof community on Tuesday. The community’s hall was filled with visitors, who enjoyed musical performances from both the Aboriginal and Bruderhof communities.
“It was just absolutely beautiful,” NAIDOC committee chair Lyn Lackay said. She said the community had always been supportive of NAIDOC events in the Inverell Shire.
