Coach Dale Beattie knew Gunnedah would fight for the points as the fastest improving side in the comp.
The first game saw the Highlanders go down by one point even after scoring right on the bell.
However, after being a little more clinical in game two, the Highlanders secured the victory 17-5.
Rhiannon Byers, Monique McCoy and Mykayla and Hannah Crisp were named as standout players.
“Rhiannon bounced right back after an injury to show why she’s one of the best players going around,” Beattie said.
The Highlanders will travel to Scone with the boys this weekend hoping for another win to hold that top position.
“We won’t be at full strength but we’ll do our best,” Beattie said.
Sitting just five points ahead of the Tamworth Pirates, in first place on the ladder Highlanders women’s side will have to dig deep to continue their reign.
