New England Police District are investigating a spate of steal from motor vehicle offences in Bingara and Warialda Tuesday night, July 17.
"Be aware of who is around or if something seems different to the norm," New England Police District commander, superintendent Scott Tanner said.
He warned that criminals look for easy targets, and therefore are less likely to break into locked vehicles.
"In many cases these are opportunistic crimes where thieves will walk down a street and try the door of every car until they find the ones that are open,” superintendent Tanner said.

"Please lock your car, even if it is in the drive way. Do not leave valuables in your vehicles and do not display them where they can be seen. If this crime does occur preserve your vehicle so that the police can obtain forensic evidence."
Police suggested making sure windows and doors to cars and homes were locked as well as removing equipment left lying around in the backyard – such as shovels, ladders and chairs – that could potentially help a thief.
"Don't make it easy,'' superintendent Tanner said.
Anyone with information about these incidents should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
Information provided will be treated in the strictest of confidence. Police reminded the public not to report crime information via their Facebook and Twitter pages.
