After nine rounds Kent scored 74 or less in each of his eight lowest games giving him a net total of 561 – his total includes scores of 64, 65 and 69.
It was an impressive display by Kent at the weekend.
Gary Hadland, 571, Tony Baldwin, 577, and John Coote, 579 are the next best results.
Kent also leads the Order of Merit ahead of Todd Cross, Steve Glover, Tony Driscoll and Tony Baldwin.
The Hoyt Cup will be won by the player with the lowest eight net scores in the Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mugs over a 12-month period.
There are only three more rounds in the Order of Merit until the first of the three playoff rounds.
The top 60 will qualify for the first of the playoffs which will be played September 1.
Meanwhile, the Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug stroke was played on Saturday in ideal weather conditions.
The mug winner was Steve Glover with an impressive net 65.
Grade winners were, A Grade’s Bob Cook, 68, B Grade’s Dave Schofield,70, and C Grade’s Doug Cross, 67.
Place getters were Tony Baldwin and Larry Finney with net 69, Leon Paton and Toby Teece-Tapscott, 70, John Foulcher, 71, Jason Coakes, Dick Hudson and Tristan Irwin, 72, and Luke Bourke 73 in a count back.
Nearest the pins were won by Steve Kent, Ben Watling, Steve Glover and Terry Young with Terry picking up the pro-pin.
Dave Schofield who managed to record an eagle on the eighth.
A good field also turned out for Sunday’s stableford which was the last day for completion of the second round of the Marquart Jug and the first round of the Mills Plate.
Paul Stirling was the day’s winner with 38 points.
He was followed by Justin Bushell and Kyle Chilcott with 37, Morgan Reece and Brian Ford on 35 and Matthew Reece 33.
Nearest the pins were Glen Cross and Ross Chilcott.
The next rounds of the jug and the plate are to be finalised by August 26.
Both comps are down to the last eight pairs.
In the jug, youngsters Luke Bourke and Toby Teece-Tapscott had good rounds over the weekend to knock off favorites Steve Kent and Gary Hadland.
This match was all over by the 14th hole.
While they are looking good there are still some very experienced pairs left if they manage to get past Ross Chilcott and Brian Ford next round.
Next week’s comps will be a stableford on the Saturday and a medley stableford on Sunday.
Players should also keep in mind the four-ball championships which are to be played Saturday, August 18.
