Whilst visiting the New England region, the Governor and Mrs Hurley stopped by Warialda to chat with a number of local groups and enjoy some warm, country hospitality.
Inverell CWA publicity officer Pam McLeay said the group started talking about the importance of younger volunteers in regional communities.
Junior CWA members Tyler Savill and Chelsie Mitchell spoke to the Governor about their biscuit baking project for soldiers.
“The Governor was really impressed to hear about their biscuit baking and said it was great to see the CWA encouraging young ladies to volunteer,” Mrs McLeay said.
Last term, junior CWA members sent biscuits over to the soldiers with a personalised letter from the girls.
“A letter came back from a captain telling the girls he had to entertain and British officer so he offered him some of their biscuits.
“The British soldier was very impressed with the project and said the biscuits were delicious,” she said.
This is the second year the junior CWA members have been rostered on to bake biscuits for soldiers.
During the morning in Warialda, Mrs Hurley performed a song she had written about CWA volunteers and encouraged everyone to join in singing.
Both Tyler and Chelsie felt honoured to have met the NSW Governor General and his wife.
