Inverell’s Ben Butler successfully defended his four-open titles from last year by winning the singles over Todd Newton and doubles with his father Rowan, over Jeff Blank and Warwick Hodgkinson.

He also won mixed doubles with Patty Bailey over Trish Bellingen and Warwick and special doubles with Josh Parker over Aaron Baker and Warwick.

While, Corina Muckenschnabel defended her open title by defeating Josie Boland. Corina then teamed up with Josie to take out the open doubles over Patty and Trish. 

Josie won the division two singles over Georgia Wilkinson and was runner up with Josh in the division two mixed doubles where they lost to Nelson Zell and Angela Baker.

Division two singles champion for 2018 was Daniel Helsdingen and runner up was Aaron Baker. In division three, the singles champion was Kaine Rowlings and Michael Llewelyn was runner up.

The division two men’s doubles winners were Josh and Nick Parker with runners up Aaron Baker and Brian Lawlor.

The club would like to thank everyone who played in the local championships, which majorly contributed to the success of the day.

Special thanks went to Kathy and June for running the canteen over the weekend and to Josh Parker for doing the draws while seeing that all matches were on court and on time.

The club also thanked Vanessa for taking photographs on the day.

On Saturday August 25 and 26 the club will host the ‘Junior Development Series Champions of Champions’.

This event has been running since 1980, while Inverell has been hosting in since 2000. On Friday, August 24 players from the north west and north east will spend the day practising.

From 7.45am there will be an official opening with players taking the court around 8am.

The competition will wrap up around 3pm on Sunday.

Inverell will be represented by Ben Butler in the 16 and unders.
