Rural Aid has announced that it has secured 2000 tonnes, 2630 large bales of hay that will be transported on 65 trucks from Western Australia to NSW and Queensland farmers over the coming weeks as it secures more fodder to meet the current drought crisis.

Rural Aid CEO Charles Alder said, “We’re working with our contacts in the industry to secure even more hay for farmers. So far we have distributed more than 6000 bales to 280 farmers in just the last 6 months. We believe there is still more hay available and donations from everyday Australians are making this, and future, purchases possible.”
In just the last week the Buy a Bale program has moved hundreds of bales of hay to farmers spanning Broken Hill, Dungowan, Scone, Cundumbul, Hinton, Texas, Bakers Creek, Cuttabri, Loomberah, Goodooga, Cunnamulla, Bendemeer and Tottenham.

Demand from farmers is unrelenting as the charity deals with over 350 requests a week for assistance. Farmers across NSW, QLD, VIC and SA are now registering for assistance as drought conditions worsen and farmers
Today’s purchase of this additional 2000 tonnes was made possible through contacts at Feed Central and supported by Woolworths Group Supply Chain.
Mr. Alder concluded, “Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale is grateful for the outpouring of support from everyday Australians who are donation to the program. This is a huge logistical challenge, but we are working really hard with our industry partners to ensure more hay and much needed supplies are getting to our farmers in need, as quickly as possible.”
Donations to Buy A Bale have also supported the provision of multiple new counsellors working on the ground, directly with affected farming communities.
