Big-hearted locals keen to help the community during emergencies can receive free volunteer training next month.

The course is designed for those who wish to join the Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) volunteer team or current members wanting to refresh or renew their volunteer accreditation.

It will be held at the Salvation Army on Vivian Street on Saturday, October 6 from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The training covers who the SAES is, how they operate, how they work with the government during disasters, food safety and how the SAES keeps track of everything that happens.

The Salvation Army encourages locals to invite family and friends and says all are welcome. Training, lunch and refreshments will be free. Individual photos will be taken on the day for SAES ID cards.

To RSVP, call the SAES office on 02 9740 9258 during business hours or email by Friday, September 28.
