“Charlie went insane!” Price said.
“He was in every breakdown, he was there all the time. And he had the experience from last year, so he knew what was happening and knew when to get involved.” Playing at the state level for the first time, Price said his school mate’s experience was indispensable, and that the team felt Grills’ loss when he had to sit out for a game due to injury.
“He knew some of the moves that they were using and then at half time he’d tell us what they were doing and how to counter it,” Price said.
It was a difficult three days for the North West team, which struggled to come away with a win. Price felt the locals’ main disadvantage was their inability to train regularly, as the city teams do.
“I think we’re the biggest region, so it’s a bit harder to all get together in one spot. We practiced twice in Tamworth,” he said.
“We lost most of them, but every game we got better and better and better.” He said by the end, the North West team knew each other much better, and were playing as a more cohesive unit.
