The raised beds will make life easier for the volunteers as they prepare for the Gardens’ move further up Swanbrook Road.
Gardens co-ordinator Jane O’Brien was pleased with the continuing collaborative nature of the project, and gathered many of the participants together last Thursday, September 20, to thank them for their involvement.
Bunnings Inverell purchased half of the iron required to make the beds on behalf of the Gardens, while the Inverell Men’s Shed cut it down to the appropriate size.

“We’ve got stacks of iron to make these beds up at the new site. So this is a bit of a snapshot of what the garden beds will look like at the new site,” Mrs O’Brien said.
Danthonia Bruderhof students volunteered their time to a working bee to put the beds together and begin planting. Members of the Community College Northern Inland’s Foundation Skills group then helped build a shade structure and plant more vegetables.
“It’s the kind of project that certainly excites me,” Mrs O’Brien said.
She offered a selection of the Gardens’ produce to the volunteers in gratitude for their work.
Danthonia’s Norann Voll said it was a huge privilege for the community’s students to be involved.
“We hope you invite us again, because it’s an amazing initiative and we’re honoured to be a part of it,” she said.
Although the upcoming move has been on the cards for at least two years, the Gardens will remain on the current site this season.
