Almost 400 eager locals took to the Inverell Sports Complex intent on becoming human rainbows. Despite wet weather on Friday night, blue skies made for the perfect colour run weather. Emcee Rod Fardell from Dye Hard kept the energy levels high throughout.

Starting out in crisp white shirts, the group danced together and even began a conga line before facing the Macintyre Lions Club, armed with tubs of multicoloured powder.

Racing around the soccer fields, it wasn’t long before every participant was caked in colour from their heads to their toes. The Lions manned water stations to keep the runners hydrated, and the Apex Club cooked a barbecue afterwards. 

Prizes were given for a number of achievements, including best coloured beard, best dressed couple, best dancer and most colourful overall.  

On the Sapphire City Festival calendar for the first time, the event was non-competitive and catered to grown ups down to toddlers. The fun run was a part of a series of council-run events funded by a $50,000 NSW Government Youth Opportunities grant, designed to keep local kids active throughout the school holidays.

The proceeds will be given to the Macintyre Lions Club.
