The first Catholics came to the district in 1840, but it wasn’t until 1868 that the parish joined forces to create the building of a church in Inverell.

The nearest Catholic church at that time was at Maitland, and those wanting to be married or have children baptised had to wait until the travelling priest cam from Singleton.
150 years onward, the parish is established and thriving. To celebrate, a number of events are being held in town.
- Don’t miss the family picnic being held as part of the 150th Anniversary celebrations on October 14. The event takes place at 9am after mass. The Sacred Heart Catholic Church is at 81 Vivian Street. Telephone 6722 1103 for more info about this event.
- A celebration dinner is being held on Saturday, October 20. Tickets are still available at $35 each till after mass this Sunday. There are no ticket sales on the night as numbers are needed for catering. Commemorative books are available anytime at $20.
