The primary scripture teaching team of Doreen Gillman, Bernie Killen and Debbie Chetham led the program for Inverell Public and Ross Hill’s kindergarten to year 6 students.
The concerts began with three object lessons. A nativity scene without baby Jesus, secular Christmas cards and a completely secular Letters of Christmas poem.
After the Biblical account of the first Christmas was read out, the object lessons were altered to reflect the true meaning of Christmas. The baby was placed into the nativity scene, religious cards replaced the secular ones and the Letters of Christmas poem portrayed the elements of the Biblical account.
Students from year 6 at each of the schools held up the Letters of Christmas for each of the poems. Bernie Killen performed two of his original compositions The Gift and Promises, accompanied by Debbie Chetham. The concerts ended with the traditional rousing rendition of Doreen Gillman’s version of Jingle Bells (Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh what fun it is to praise the baby in the hay.).
The teachers and staff were thanked for their support and cooperation throughout the year and everyone was wished a blessed and happy Christmas and holiday season.
