A 25-year-old driver has been given 12 months jail time following a high speed police pursuit from Queensland to Edgeroi last Thursday.

At about 1.02pm on Thursday, December, 13 NSW Police Force received information that a vehicle, possibly involved in criminal activity, had evaded police in Queensland and was heading towards NSW at high speed.
About 1.45pm, the vehicle was detected travelling at high speed by NSW Highway Patrol approximately 50km north of Moree.
At this time, police turned on the vehicle but were unable to intercept it.
When the vehicle reached approximately 10km north of Moree, it was again detected travelling at high speed by another Highway Patrol officer who attempted to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle was again sighted shortly after by other police travelling in the Moree CBD at high speed.

It was then observed by witnesses travelling out of Moree at high speed towards Narrabri. At this time, officers from Narrabri set up a stop stick site on the southern side of the Bobbiwa Creek Bridge, Newell Highway, approximately 21km north of Narrabri, whilst an officer of Oxley Highway Patrol waited for the vehicle in the village of Edgeroi.
At 2.10pm, the vehicle travelled through Edgeroi southbound at high speed, and as the vehicle approached the stop stick site, the sticks were deployed however the driver attempted to avoid the site, overcorrecting and losing control of the vehicle.
The vehicle then left the roadway before travelling down an embankment, colliding with a small tree, and coming to rest.
The 25-year-old male driver left the vehicle and ran into an adjacent paddock where he was pursued by police and arrested.
When police searched the vehicle, they locacted what is believed to be a small cannabis plant, 0.69g cannabis head, an amount of power tools and clothing believed to be stolen.
The driver was conveyed to Narrabri Police Station and interviewed in relation to this event, and later charged with multiple offences, including two counts of police pursuit (Skye’s Law), possess goods stolen outside NSW, possess drug and plant, and other traffic offences.
He was bail refused to Inverell Local Court on Friday, December 14, where he pleaded guilty to all offences and was sentenced to a period of imprisonment for 12 months.
Queensland Police will continue with inquiries concerning this incident.
