After a year of absence, the sixth Weeds and Waterholes Bash will be held from January 18-20 promising to have something for everyone.
Organiser Reg Dennis said in the five years running the bash, more than $37,500 had been raised for the Kids with Cancer Foundation.
There will be a show and shine, live entertainment, free camping, stalls, raffles, an auction and a free barbecue breakfast on Sunday.
“We started this event as a motorcycle charity run then opened it up to everyone. It is a very family friendly day on Saturday and all boats, bikes, cars and campers are welcome,” he said.
The event will kick-off with some live entertainment at the Delungra Hotel on Friday, January 18 where some small raffles will be held.
Then on Saturday, around lunchtime, the stalls, show and shine and entertainment will begin.
The big auction will be held around 6pm Saturday night and live entertainment will take over around 7.30pm playing til late.
Each year there is a hand-painted saw blade and hand-knitted blanket auctioned off. Reg said an amazing local artist ensured this year’s saw blade was “tip-top”.
All proceeds from the raffles and auction will go to the Kids with Cancer Foundation. Reg thanked all businesses and individuals who have donated a huge variety of items.
“On Sunday we offer everyone a free barbecue breakfast before everyone heads off home. We do see a lot of local and travelling support because it is for such a good cause,” Reg said.
When the event began around five years ago, 65 motorcycles participated. At the last event there were around 260, plus plenty of cars and campers.
Reg said people have travelled from the top of Queensland and other states to be apart of the Weeds and Waterholes Bash.
“It is well supported by motorcycle enthusiasts. It’s also an event locals look forward to as well, it boosts the little town of Delungra I think,” he said.
The idea to host the event flourished one year when Reg and a few others stopped into the Delungra Hotel on their way back from a similar event.
Reg said after chatting to the publican about the charity event, he said ‘why not do something like that here in Delungra?’
One thing led to another and the Kids with Cancer Foundation was chosen as the charity the Weeds and Waterholes Bash would support.
