Taking on the role of club president Brayden Vickery welcomed vice-president James Sheather, junior VP Alf Byrnes, secretary Libby Viriki, treasurer Jacinta Lavender, patron Richie Hough and newly appointed canteen coordinator Lyn Lackay to the team.
Vickery was confident in this year’s “experienced” coaching staff.
“Returning to the role will be father and son combo James Sheather for A-Grade and Ivan Lackay for league tag, supported by Shane Roberts the under 18s coach,” he said.
Worried they may have to lose their junior grade to enter second division, the Tigers were hesitant however after working with Group 19 they came up with a win-win solution.
“To keep our next generation of Tigers, they will still play the first division competition, following one of the first division sides without a junior team,” he said.
The Tigers’ major sponsor for 2019, the Tingha Royal Hotel will host a sign-on day combined with Australia Day celebrations on January 26.
Starting at 12pm people are welcome to head down and sign-on for mens, league tag and U18s to become a Tiger.
“We’re looking to try a few new things this year to get people back to the footy and have a bit of fun; keeping the players and community interested and turning up each week.”
An event of a different kind will take place at the sign-on as the first Tingha Tigers ‘Copes Creek Cup’ is up for grabs in the yabby races.
Taking over the north-west corner of NSW and the Tingha Royal Hotel beer garden, there will be four races- the Copeton Canter, Peachey’s Cutter, Darby’s Dash and the Copes Creek Cup, all named after the local water ways that run through the area.
Instead of betting, there will be an auction before each race with each yabby in the race being auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Money will go towards the major prize, Tingha Tigers RLFC and chosen charity Cancer Council Australia.
“We will also be having a sausage sizzle lunch and meat raffles which were supplied by Lennon’s Butchery. The first race starts at 2.30pm.”
If you can’t make sign-on, training will start for all grades on February 1 at the Tingha Sports and Recreational grounds.
New and existing faces are being encouraged to pop down and sign on for a fun-filled season in the Group 19 second division competition.
“We’re also looking to have a working be there on Feb 2, we’re hoping to rally up a few community, Players or supporters to join in and help out.”
