The blaze, which started in the late hours of January 24, 2010, left only the building’s brick facade standing on the corner of Otho and Evans streets.
It was suspected an electrical fault was the cause of the fire at the time.
It wasn’t until October 18, 2013 a development application was submitted to Inverell Shire Council to begin restoration works.
The DA was lodged by Town Planning, Construction and Supervision, trading as SA& JA Brogan with plans to begin construction in April 2014.
The original architect was John Spencer and in 1901 the building had a verandah on two sides, which was supported by posts.
The verandah was one specific detail Mr Brogan was keen to recreate.
In September 2015, the redevelopment was expected to take six weeks until completion with units on the first floor already open for inspection.
By December construction barriers were removed from the arcade, tenants moved in to the upstairs residences and hairdresser Sally Fox set up her salon, Styles N Smiles.
Sally is still there today along with the popular Australian Cafe.
