Students from years three to 10 gathered at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 5 to welcome their new school captains with a badge ceremony and Mass.
Primary leaders Darcy Ryan and Claire Selig were both a little surprised but pleased to be elected.
“I was feeling nervous,” Claire admitted.
“I wanted to be school captain because I wanted to represent Holy Trinity school.”
Darcy was happy to take on the role and like Claire, felt confident about his new responsibilities, which include running school assemblies and representing Holy Trinity in various community events.
“I just wanted to be school captain because I’ve been here since kindergarten and I really enjoyed it,” he said.
Senior school captains Grace Doyle and Darcy Brennan were both grateful for their previous student council experience in their primary years, and were determined to become leaders the younger students could look up to.
“(I want) to be able to lead a large group of people, make the right decision and (build) communication skills,” Darcy said.
Grace said she hoped to be a leader who listened to other people’s ideas, “and just a friendly person for people to talk to”.
Darcy agreed and said he didn’t necessarily want to stand out, but hoped to become “someone that’s regarded as a nice person to be around or look up to”.
