After burning through more than 21,400ha of land in the Tingha, Gilgai, Old Mill and Stanborough areas, the Rural Fire Service had matters under control on Sunday afternoon and was able to reopen most roads.

Guyra Road between Tingha and Gilgai was closed on Sunday afternoon, and will be reopened when deemed safe.

More than 140 firefighters continued to strengthen containment lines around the fire-ground.

The crews worked to identify and extinguish hot-spots along the edge of the fire.

There was no threat to properties, however residents were advised to remain vigilant and know what they will do if the situation changes.

Weather over the next few days remains dry and hot with light winds predominantly from the south.

On Wednesday, the winds tend more westerly however remain relatively light.

There were also favourable conditions for firies battling the Wallangarra north of Tenterfield, where more than 35,000ha had been razed.

The firefighters had planned backburning operations on the southern side of the fire from Jennings to Black Swamp Road, incorporating Mount Lindesay Road.

There were fears the Tabulam fire could approach properties as it spread around Sugarbag Road, Leslie Creek Road and Kims Way. Work was done to strengthen containment lines.

Crews from western Sydney travelled to the region to help tackle the Linton fire.

While under control, assisting crews from the Macarthur RFS said “the fires in Northern NSW are moving very fast, are unpredictable and are leaving a path of distraction”.
