The committee made the decision to postpone the round on Friday, with many players involved in the fire fighting effort. The decision was well received. The draw has now been rearranged to cater for the change.
The Inverell over 45s faced Walcha Bushies at Varley Oval. Inverell, having won the toss, compiled over 200 runs in their 40 overs. Barry Hoy took two wickets and a neat stumping for the visitors.
Walcha were unable to chase the runs down due to some destructive bowling by the spin twins Brendon Campbell and Ross Kingsley, who took five wickets between them. Inverell came out on top by 90 runs. The game was played in a collegial spirit.
The new turf wicket, transported from Dubbo, was also laid from 7am on Sunday at McCosker Oval Ground 2. This has been a work in progress and hot weather had been an issue.
The helpers got it down in under an hour. The project has been funded by the Inverell Shire Council and, along with the new synthetic surface for the Varley Oval practice nets, keeps Inverell's cricket facilities at a high standard.
