The cup is a single match-play event. The top thirty-two players from the February monthly mug, played three weeks ago, were placed in a knockout draw.
Ten matches have already been decided with some very close results.
Tony Baldwin won his encounter with youngster Ben Butler on the 18th hole. Ian Jeffery won his match with Kyle Chilcott, 2 up with one hole to go.
Rowan Butler, Ashley Walters and Glen Cross all won their games, 3 up with 2 holes to go against Ben Green, Howard Finlen and Ross Chilcott respectively.
In one of the more evenly handicapped games, John Coote playing off 3 was too good on the day for Ben Watling off 6. Their match was decided on the 15th hole.
A few games of interest still to be completed are Jai Tasker, with a handicap of 7, drawn to play Tony Driscoll, current D grade champion, handicap 29. Both players have had plenty of big match experience and while Jai will be giving Tony lots of shots, he is a competitive young man with the skills to win.
Luke Bourke playing off 6 will also be giving lots of shots to his opponent Dave Wargent.
Dave is off 20 and will need to play well to get in front of the very reliable Luke, a current holder of the match-play Marquart Jug.
Gary Hadland off 11 takes on Graham Moore off 15. Gary has had lots of experience in match-play while Graham has been in consistent form and will not be rattled. This should be a good match.
The second round of the Presidents Cup must be played by mid-March.
