Essential Energy crews will set up to to replace more than 50 pole cross-arms, 12 poles, three transformers and more than three kilometres of high voltage powelines.
Northern Tablelands operations manager Mark Summers said works would replace electricity network assets which have reached end of life.
A number of planned power outages will be necessary to allow crews to complete the works safely, including an overnight outage affecting Warialda, Bingara and the surrounding area.
The outage is scheduled from 11.30pm on Saturday, April 27 until 3.30am the next day.
"Specialist zone substation crews will also undertake upgrades in the Warialda zone substation," he said in a statement.
Any household or business affected by a planned power outage will be notified in advance.
"We've undertaken significant planning to reduce the impact of these works on customers, including minimising the number of customers affected by the associated planned power outages and bringing in additional crews and equipment from Barraba, Glen Innes, Goondiwindi, Inverell, Narrabri and Tenterfield to assist our Warialda team," he said.
A significant portion of the work is being completed in Stephen and Long Streets.
To ensure the safety of the public and crews, traffic control measures, including partial road closures and diversions, will be in place on Sunday, May 5, and from Monday, May 13 through to Thursday, May 16.
The planned power outages are dependent on suitable weather conditions and may be postponed if conditions are unfavourable or unforeseen circumstances arise.
"We thank customers for their understanding and patience while we work to improve the power network for their local community."
