Setting up camp in Inverell for eight weeks, volunteers have descended from different parts of the nation to lend a hand.

Eighteen rural landholders have stepped forward to receive Blaze Aid assistance and just over a week in, the teams have almost completed rebuilding fences on two properties.

Inverell Blaze Aid volunteer Beth Williams said although progress was being made, more volunteers would help relieve some of the work load.

"Fencing is underway but we are waiting on and wanting more volunteers. We've got six Inverell people helping out and a fair few people who've never done Blaze Aid before.

"At the moment we only have two teams working at two separate high-priority properties. They'll be completed by the end of the week and teams will start at new locations."

Properties have been assessed by Blaze Aid and ranked on a priority list. Those who have stock and make a living off the land are situated at the top.

Rebuilding boundaries fences to keep stock in was also another high priority for the volunteer group.

The fire ripped through more than 23,400 hectares of land destroying 14 houses, 44 outbuildings and hundreds of kilometres of property fences in February.

"At the moment Blaze Aid has eight camps running through NSW, QLD and Victoria. Volunteers have a lot of choice of what camp they can assist."

As Blaze Aid runs seven days a week, Beth said there were no requirements to become a volunteer and willing helpers were able to choose what days they were available.

"If they do have knowledge of fencing that's great, but a lot of these volunteers haven't done fencing before. Teams are usually a mix of half experienced, half not."

As a volunteer herself, Beth said it was purely the pleasure of helping someone facing hardship that inspired her.

"We can't fix everything but we can fix fences. People are naturally very distraught about what has happened to them but after speaking with them and talking to them, they start to know someone is there to help them."
