Coached by the former professional himself Brad Thorn Campbell said he felt honoured to play under and learn from him.
"He's a legend of our game so it's a real honour," he said.
Playing outside back, the Reds came up against a fiery Bulls who took the win 32-17.
Although his Super Rugby debut didn't end in a win, Campbell took it as a learning curve.
Redemption followed the next weekend, Campbell again taking the field for the QLD Reds, this time up against the Sharks. The Reds walked away with a well-deserved 21-14 win.
"Our game against the Bulls wasn't the best performance for us but it was good to get a win the weekend after.
"The highlight for me was playing in a game I've watched on TV against players I've always admired. It was a surreal moment running on.
"Once you're on the field you don't really think about that though," he said.
With support from his coach and teammates, Campbell feels his transition to professional rugby has been smooth.
Placed as a wing or fullback, he hopes to make a career out of the sport he loves.
"I'm motivated to train and get better, grow as a player and person and win many more games with the Reds. Hopefully we can push for a title."
Starting as a junior for the Inverell Highlanders, Campbell continued to play union for his boarding school on the Gold Coast.
He then stared in Bond University's team in the National Rugby Championship (NRC) in 2018.
This year saw the local talent enter the QLD Reds squad which was a credit to his dedication and standout performance in training, and now on the field.
"Every year, at all three club's I've played for I feel like I have learned different skills from coaches and players."
Training most week days and playing on the weekends, Campbell said he doesn't return back to his home town as often as he would like.
"It is good being able to duck back to see Mum, Dad, grandparents and friends when I get a chance."
As a lover of all sports, Campbell played rugby league and union in Inverell.
