Hosted by NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA), the championship tournament includes players from 13 different regions.
NSW PSSA tennis convener Johnathan Russell said 10 public, two catholic and one independent school teams took the court on Tuesday.
"There's five boys and five girls on each team so 130 players are involved in the championships. They'll play singles and doubles throughout the week with Friday being our finals day," he said.
Boys and girls play for John Ferguson cups in their individual pool groups then play for an overall winning team- the Don Moon trophy.
Players take the court each day at 8am and finish up around 4pm. The North West is well-represented by primary school kids from Narrabri, Guyra, Tamworth, Gunnedah and Maules Creek.
"From this carnival we pick a NSW team of seven boys and seven girls to compete against all other states and territories across Australia. This year it'll be held in October at Perth," Russell said.
The NSW PSSA Championships have been running for 51 years. Last time the event was held locally, it was a total washout.
"The championships rotate to a different region each year. Last time we were in Inverell it was 2005 and we broke the drought.
"Conditions are expected to be fine all week so unfortunately I don't think it'll happen again."
Presentation will begin around midday on Friday at the Inverell Tennis Courts.
"We've got really high quality talent in Inverell this week, some of the best tennis players across the state."
The North West team includes: Caitlan Bourke, Narrabri, Brigid Murphy, Maules Creek, Harry Purvis, Guyra, Dominic Barbara, Tamworth, Amarni Louis, Gunnedah, Lacey Bourke, Narrabri, Isabella Purvis, Guyra, Mat Keen, Tamworth, Jai Read McInnes, Gunnedah and Mason Louis, Gunnedah.
