With over 30 years experience catching more than 20,000 professional and amateur thieves, Shane hopes to share the thoughts and tricks used by shop lifters.
Hosted by the Inverell Chamber of Commerce, businesses large and small are encouraged to attend Shane's training evening at the RSM Club on June 6.
Chamber president Nicky Lavender said last time Shane was in Inverell, more than eight years ago, the practical training experience was largely supported.
"He had spent a couple of days prior to the training evening in town and when everyone entered the RSM Club he had on display three tables full of items he'd stolen during his time in town. After the training he returned them of course."
As businesses face a tough economic climate, with drought conditions taking a huge toll, the training is designed to save hundreds of dollars worth of stock walking out the door.
Shane will touch on obvious signs of a shop lifter for businesses and what employees need to be aware of when customers enter their shop.
He will also speak about product placement and advise what items are best placed in "blind spots".
"He'll also go through tricks people use to steal items in the shop and he talks about employee theft, and how to be aware if your employees are taking items as well."
With the cost of the evening set at $10 per person, Nicky is confident business owners will re-coop that cost in no time.
"Businesses will notice a difference after implementing the tips and tricks he will provide on the night."
As the occupation of a "professional shoplifter" evolves, so does Shane's knowledge. He stays up to date with current issues and ways thieves work.
Nicky said he will also provide specific information for different types of businesses.
"He was in town earlier this year working with one of the largest stores and over two days 30 people were caught stealing from the one business.
"Ultimately if someone steals a couple of items in one day you could lose your profit margin and effectively have a loss that day as a result of theft," she said.
Shane will also touch on the golden rules of apprehension- the rights and responsibilities of business owners.
People have been asked to RSVP before 5pm on Monday, June 3 by emailing info@inverellchamber.com.au or calling 6728 8160.
