With an impressive sporting record, fast bowler Len Pascoe was one of the fastest four bowlers in the history of Australian cricket able to bowl in excess of 93 MPH.
Len bowled the first ball under lights to Barry Richards in 1978 and was instrumental in the development of the current batting helmet.
The retired cricketer will join former Manly Sea Eagles player Jamie Lyon as two sporting draw cards attending the men's health night on October 18 in Inverell.
As a former professional rugby league footballer of the 2000s and 2010s, Lyon represented Australia internationally and New South Wales in the State of Origin.
The Wee Waa boy won the 2008 and 2011 NRL grand finals with Manly and has received many accolades throughout his league career.
Inverell Prostate Cancer Support Group's Kerry White said the idea behind the evening was to promote men's health and try to encourage local men to take care of themselves.
"We had one in 2016 which was very successful, we had close to 400 people. After we ran it people were asking when the next one would be. We thought this was our year so we've been organising this since the start of the year," he said.
The local prostate support group, with the help of generous sponsors and Brad Hilton secured Lyon, Pascoe and Sydney comedian Greg Hayes for the evening.
Gerry Taveira will run a question and answer with Lyon.
Other guest speakers on the night will include: Prostate cancer specialist nurse Natasha Bissell, urological surgeon Dr Phillip Kabelaris, Kelly Foran from Friendly Faces, Helping Hands, Rob Anderson an ex-farmer diagnosed with depression, radiation oncologist Tom Shakespeare and skin cancer specialist Barry Jackson.
"Even though we are a prostate cancer support group we feel it is good to have a general health night for men and their partners. We just want to get men looking after their health."
There will be a raffle held on the night as well as lucky door prizes and two auction items up for grabs; the first a painting by Andrea Faiers and the other a signed cricket ball.
Tickets can be purchased at the Inverell RSM Club and both local newsagencies prior to the night for $20 each. Due to catering arrangements tickets will not be available on the door.
"The painting from Andrea is beautiful, it's of an old timer panning for sapphires called 'The Fossickers Faith'. Our event is one of the first for the Sapphire City Festival so we have a theme around sapphires."
The men's health night will begin at 6pm at the RSM Club for a 6.20pm start on October 18.
