The latest service scheme from the Inverell Apex Club was run on October 12 and 13 of free water deliveries for those in need during the worst drought this region has ever seen.
The Inverell service club racked up 1273km and delivered over 45,000 litres of drinking water to more than 20 locations throughout the shire.
From Bonshaw in the north, to shire boundaries in the south and west, members donated time and vehicles to tow the Bunnings water cart replenishing water tanks of citizens in need.
Club president Alexander Rainger was excited by the success of the event, but was quick to point out the club didn't do it alone.
Bunnings Inverell supplied the water trailer for the scheme and Mr Rainger urged anyone in need of a water cart to enquire at Bunnings, who offer the trailer for public use, free of charge.
The Apex team were assisted by Chris Pay of Blue Gem Contracting, who heard of the scheme and reached out. Mr Pay donated his time and equipment for both days, with his 12000 litre water truck proving very useful.
"It was great to have Chris on board, not only with his equipment but his knowledge of pumps and hoses," Rainger said while trying to screw the fire nozzle onto the camlock.
"With local people and businesses throwing their support behind their community it really gives you hope. And it's not just once, you see these guys doing it again and again" he said of Blue Gem Contracting.
Inverell Apex Club is part of the national organisation of Apex Clubs which hold service to community firmly in its core values.
"We are proud to be able to help our community" said club President Alex Rainger.
The Inverell Apex club is in its 81st year of continuous operation and the current members strive to grow and improve the club. Keep an eye out for an Inverell Apex membership information session and social evening in the near future.
