However, during Wednesday's ordinary meeting it was resolved council would seek to amend guidelines associated with the funding.

Moved by Cr Anthony Michael, the motion recommended an extension be placed on the guidelines allowing council to utilise $500K in voucher form for rural ratepayers to be spent at local businesses.

On top of the recommendation, councillors moved an application be submitted to apply the remaining funds to a three-part program consisting of: Water infrastructure and security projects, small business support package and drought relief and resilience events.

Councillors were hopeful guidelines may be altered but decided on an alternative recommendation in case the request was knocked back.

If the guidelines are not altered to allow for vouchers, councillors moved an application be made to allow the entire $1 million across the three programs (water infrastructure and security projects, small business support package and drought relief and resilience events).

In a statement, detailing the Federal Government program, Minister for Drought David Littleproud said the aim was to have funding ready to go before Christmas.

"This will get projects off the ground sooner so drought-hit communities get the boost they need. The program delivers more business for suppliers like local hardware stores and more jobs for their communities," he said in a statement.
