Facing severely hot and dry weather conditions, Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews are expecting increased activity with an out-of-control blaze along Staggs Lane.

Lightning strikes from storm activity caused the fire to ignite in the Goonoowigal State Conservation Area yesterday afternoon, burning more than 32 hectares.
RFS public liaison officer Angus McDowall advised Staggs Lane residents to keep an eye on fire activity throughout the afternoon and be ready to act.
"At this stage the fire is moving in a south-easterly direction within the Goonoowigall State Conservation area. We have severe fire danger forecasts in place for the area today and 20-30km, north-westerly winds forecast this afternoon.
"It is likely the fire will burn in a south-easterly direction onto private property and further into the Goonoowigall State Conservation area," he said.
While the fire is still at advice level and with no homes in direct threat, now is the time for residents to prepare for when the fire threatens.
Mr McDowall said he didn't want people to panic, but staying aware of the fire's movements and updates was recommended.
Five appliances were on scene, with heavy plant equipment, working to control the blaze at around 1.30pm with additional resources expected over the coming days.
"There is a number of aircraft working on the fire. Three helicopters, an air-bomber and an air tanker which I believe came through the area recently."
Residents around Inverell, Gilgai and further afield should expect to hear and see aircraft operating in the area throughout the coming days, as well as an increased smoke presence.

Mr McDowall confirmed the Mclachlans Lane Brodies Plains, fire was brought under control by RFS crew last night. "It was good work ahead of conditions today," he said.
Meanwhile, crews are working to bring a blaze on Tienga Road, near Bundarra, under containment. The fire was also started by a lightning strike in "fairly difficult to access" terrain.
"Smoke will likely be visible from that fire as well. Fortunately, there isn't properties in immediate risk with Tienga Rd either," he said.
