Leese Wighton, the wife of Inverell's fire captain Robbie Wighton, sent the Times the photos above, which Robbie took 10 minutes apart in Jindabyne on Saturday as the sky turned from a smokey grey, to a dangerous red.
Robbie is part of Strike Team Victor, which includes firefighters from Inverell, Tamworth, Armidale, Gunnedah and Narrabri.
They were deployed there on New Years Eve to familiarise themselves with Jindabyne and its residents and prepare for the expected fires.

A statewide Total Fire Ban has been declared for tomorrow, Sunday, January 5, due to forecast warm and windy conditions.
The Total Fire Ban, commencing at midnight tonight, covers all of NSW.
No fires may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended during a Total Fire Ban. Gas and electric barbeques may be used provided certain conditions are met.
