Holding the volunteer role of Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group president for the past two years, Trish has been pivotal to a number of fundraising activities.

During the ceremony, Inverell Shire Council mayor Paul Harmon spoke a little more about the great work Trish does with the support group, whilst balancing her own employment and assisting her husband Tony with his businesses.

Prior to taking up the presidents' position Trish was the group's treasurer. Each month Trish organises bus tours and annually, she plans a Pink Ribbon Day fundraiser and a Mother's Day, and Christmas Day luncheon.

"Trish is a popular and friendly host which is reflected in the hundreds when women who attend these events speak glowingly of her dedication. The monthly bus tours have become a popular social outing for dozens of women.

"The event brings women together for a day out, a chance to enjoy our beautiful region and network, built friendships and raise funds."

In 2019, the Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group donated $10,000 to Inala House in Tamworth. Statistics have shown Inverell to be the highest users of Inala House, seeking temporary accommodation during radiation.

Trish also assists Catholic residents at McLean Nursing Home receive Communion.

"Behind the scenes Trish ensures women and children that have been diagnosed with any cancer, not just breast cancer, are looked after financially and emotionally. She's truly a lady who puts community first and is always there when someone needs her."

On accepting the award, Trish thanked her fellow nominees and the community of Inverell. "I enjoy helping people. I like to see women come out and have a good time. I think it makes a difference in their lives and that's what I feel good about. It makes it rewarding when you know you're helping someone."

Trish thanked her husband Tony for his support as well as all ladies who make up the Inverell Breast Cancer Support Group.

"I have lots of help, I can't accept this myself. I have helpers I know I can call on anytime to help me and that's always nice to know," she said.

The 2020 Event of the Year was Unstop-Ability- the two-day performance celebrating all ages and abilities. The 2019 event engaged more than 1300 participants aged 4-60 years plus.

More than 15 organisations and schools from across the shire were involved. The event is lead by two dynamic, creative women who give their time over a 12-month period to bring it to life- Stephanie Marshall and Michele Jedlicka.

The Young Citizen of the Year award was give to two young men this year- Rohan Cowley and Dean Davis.

Unfortunately, due to other commitments Dean could not be in Inverell to accept the award however Rohan was in the crowd.

Rohan has excelled in leadership, sporting, cultural and academics areas. As captain of Macintyre High Rohan was recognised with a Minister's Award for Excellence in Student Achievement and UNE Vice Chancellor's High Achievement Award.

His Sporting prowess includes swimming, skateboarding and cross country. He has also successfully auditioned for the Melbourne City Ballet Company.

Dean is a gift Kamilaroi man, dancer and teacher. Since completing his high school education as a member of the Clontarf Academy, Dean has trained at Australia's premier indigenous college NAISDA Dance College.

His talent has seen him dance professionally with Justice Crew and Baker Boy, yet Dean still returns home to give his time to NAIDOC Week performances, Clontarf Academy and Unstop-Ability. He encourages the strength of culture, family and stories.
