In a bid to boost spirits and offer live music as a way to take minds off the drought and bushfires, the Australian Army Band contacted Inverell East Rotary with the idea.
Inverell East Rotary publicity officer Don Learmonth said the band realised Rotary had been assisting people affected by the various natural disasters of late.
"They want to come here, spend their money in town and support local businesses. They're doing everything they can to help people suffering thorough drought and bushfires and would like to provide some free entertainment," he said.
On Tuesday February 18, Inverell Shire residents are invited to Campbell Park from 6.30pm to enjoy some refreshments before the performance begins around 7.30pm.
Comprising ensembles from quartets to a full military band, the group of talented musicians perform all genres to suit any occasion. The Australian Army Band features a pipes and drums section as well.
"Band members are drawn from the local community. They are heavily invested in the support and promotion of the Australian Defence Force whilst striving to develop music and musicians within the Hunter region," he said.
The band will perform two 40-minute halves, Inverell East Rotary has assisted in organising the Army Band's visit.
Mr Learmonth looked forward to the concert adding he believes "they'll be easy to listen to".
"The band will stay at Pioneer Village and we've organised some meals for them. They're happy to pay and spend money while they're here because they are aware of drought and how it effects the whole community," he said.
The band has quite the history, with only a short break from service after World War II and under various names and configurations, the Australian Army Band Newcastle has existed since 1861.
Band members, who in addition to their normal employment, are employed on a part-time basis by the Australian Army.
The band is very active in community development and support.
