C'mon Coles and Woolies, time to do your bit for Valentine's Day.
I am trying so, so hard to reduce my use of single-use plastics.
Then you invent packaging for your products strong enough to defy the strongest blade, you could build a gulag from the stuff. No way this is going to biodegrade in the next 1000 years.
You see I am not a romantic in the commercial craziness of Valentine's Day - flowers and stuff. I'm not much into Halloween's Day either so you can stop that, too.
But I dearly love my wife, I try and demonstrate that every day, not just on the one day of the year you would like me to. I am a bit cute like that.
Most mornings I manage to make lunch for my wife before she heads off to work. She is a school teacher, and facing her is a classroom full of Greta Thunbergs.
Like a seagull onto a chip, little kids have no guile, they attack if they see the plastic come out. Strawberries in the lunch? Make sure they are not in the punnet.
I am not sure how they pass through the meat aisle any more with the pre-packed fare on offer, mums and dads would have to take them for therapy.
We use food containers - Pyrex, Tupperware, that sort of stuff.
We are getting better at using the beeswax food covering instead of plastic wrap.
It all goes into a little freezer-bag-thingy, along with her reusable drink bottle, she keeps her lunch in.
Every now and then I should drop a plastic drinking straw strategically on top to see what reaction she would have at school if it fell on the floor.
My addicted-to-burning-fossil-fuel generation and I have failed to make a difference with so many things.
It's time for the big supermarkets to come on board and help us with the fight as well.
