Emily Adams is hoping to spread the word about the Showgirl movement after being named the 2020 Inverell Showgirl.
Emily was named Showgirl at a presentation on January 17, with Raylee Adams named runner-up.
"It's been really good. It's been a busy couple of weeks so far," she said.
As Inverell didn't have a 2019 Showgirl, Emily took part in the zone final in Dorrigo on February 8, going up against the 2019 Showgirls from across the region.
"For zone we walked in and they judged us in the morning and they were all just firing questions at you and then they had lunch with us and watched us eat and watched how we interact with everyone," she said.
She had limited time between the Inverell presentation and the zone final, but she's hoping to "get another crack at it next year."
Emily had a busy but enjoyable weekend at the Inverell Show, presenting ribbons to horses and cattle and other competition winners, as well as getting to sash younger brother Toby as supreme rider at the show.
Being a Showgirl is something that she has "always wanted to do."
"I've always grown up riding horses and competing at shows. I thought that's a little bit of a rite of passage thing when you grow up," Emily said.
"I've always competed at the Inverell Show, and competed at ag shows all across the state."
Emily will now stay involved with the Inverell Show Society and any events it runs. She is hoping to encourage more women to participate in Showgirl in the future.
"I'd like to be involved with anything to do with Showgirl for next year's girls, anything that you can do in the way for getting organised for the show next year," she said.
"Just spreading the word about the Showgirl movement; entry numbers are definitely dying.
"I realised at zone it's a really great way to meet girls that are like minded and make connections.
"Our zone is from Walgett to Dorrigo so you get to compete against 13 other lovely girls and meet some new people and get involved with supporting young women in rural Australia.
"Especially in times like these it's important."
