Coach Dale Beattie said it was the first time a women's Central North team had made it to the grand final, finishing second overall after the pool games.
Central North trials were held for a number of weeks prior to select a team of 13 players from across the region for the championships.
Inverell Highlanders Bella Reardon, Nicola Robinson, Lucy Prudden and Kearni Churchland, who captained the side, were the local talents chosen.
Playing pool games against Hunter, President's VII, Central Coast and Western Plains, the Central North women faced one loss, a narrow defeat against Hunter.
"We went down 10-7 to Hunter, we led them to the bell. They got lucky soon after and just scored to take the win.
"We had a good win against President's VII 29-0, the Western Plains was a tight one but we won 14-12 and we defeated Central Coast 19-10," Beattie said.
Spending much of their energy making the final against Hunter, the local girls weren't able to step up to the plate and were defeated 12-0.
Beattie was proud of his young side's determination and effort in the grand final.
"They gave it their all. We had a number of tough games in the lead-up and Newcastle just lifted that little bit and we weren't able to get to them. We also had a few calls go against us which didn't make it any easier.
"I've been doing this a long time and we've had a few third and fourth placings but we've never been able to crack the grand final so it was a huge achievement to even get there," he said.
Two Central North players, Tamworth's Erika Maslen and Inverell's Kearni Churchland, were named in the Dream Team- a list of seven top players selected from the tournament.
Central North will now start to build towards their 15's program for a country championships tournament, to be held in Tamworth on the June long weekend.
"We'll start to build that program shortly. Hopefully we can back up the success of the 7's program with a successful tournament in Tamworth for the 15's."
