After monitoring the COVID-19 situation, the society decided to follow current recommendations made by state and federal governments.
In a statement, the society said like many other small to medium arts organisations in the state, Inverell's Art Gallery depended on a volunteer workforce to assist in delivering exhibitions, public programs and art classes.
"We have made the decision to cancel the opening of our photography competition on Friday, March 27. The competition will be installed and judged with an announcement of winners as planned but there will be no formal opening.
"This will be our last week of art classes and social art groups. We ask that participants keep up to date with future changes via the Inverell Art Gallery Website, Instagram and Facebook," the society said.
The Art Gallery doors will remain open to the public under it's usual opening hours and the exhibit will be up to view.
The society would like to continue to keep the Inverell Art Gallery open.
"Please follow precautionary measures and instructions from the volunteers and manager. If you are feeling unwell or concerned for your health please keep your distance for the time being.
"Please continue to be a responsible and caring member of our community and we hope the situation will be positive very soon," they said.
