A meeting of state, territory and federal leaders on Sunday resulted in Prime Minister Scott Morrison announcing the new 'stage one' restrictions.
From midday yesterday clubs, pubs, restaurants, churches, casinos, cinemas, gyms, indoor spots venues and entertainment venues were ordered to close, along with the licensed parts of hotel.
Restaurants and cafes can still serve takeaway and do home delivery, but sit-down meals are banned. Grocery stores remain open.
Inverell Chamber of Commerce has created a closed Facebook group for local business owners and managers to join to create an online support network.
President Nicky Lavender said each person will need to be approved to ensure the group is kept to local business people only and guidelines will be in place regarding interactions.
"Inverell business community, we know things are extremely difficult at the moment. The ever-changing landscape is making it hard to even consider planning for a future we have no idea what it could possibly look like.
"I know a lot of our business owners are struggling, feeling isolated, feeling the pressure from their staff, customers, suppliers, contractors, families, and the list goes on. I completely understand how you are feeling but I want you know that the chamber is here to help.
"We don't want to continue with the overload of information to you, but we want you to have a safe space to ask questions. To find out how other businesses are approaching things," she said.
Ms Lavender said the Facebook group will be a space where business people can ask any and every question, no matter how small or large.
To get in touch with the Inverell Chamber of Commerce & Industry to find out more about the group, send a private message to their Facebook page.
Leaders acknowledged that these new restrictions will change the way Australians live and expressed deep regret for those business owners and employees who will be impacted.
The goal is to reduce the spread of the virus, to flatten the curve and to save the lives of fellow Australians.
Premiers and Chief Ministers will consider further stage two restrictions if social distancing measures are not adhered to. Locals should expect these measures to be in place for at least six months.
